Western Red Cedar decking
John Brash can offer two grades of Western Red Cedar decking: A premium clear grade and an 'architectually knotty' grade.  Both are equally suited to decking and are manufactured from PEFC accredited timber.  Please note however, that due to the composition of the timber, only smooth, un-profiled deck boards are available in Western Red Cedar.

ThermoWood® decking
Thermowood decking is produced from a special process using high temperature kilns to modify the cell structure of the timber.  Wood material is heated to a temperature of at least 180°C whilst being protected with steam.  Besides providing protection, the steam also affects the chemical changes taking place in the wood.  As a result of the treatment, environmentally friendly ThermoWood® is created.  Its colour darkens, it becomes more stable than normal wood in conditions of changing humidity and its thermal insulation properties are improved.  The heat treatment also makes the wood more resistant to decay and gives it a longer life expectancy.

ThermoWood® deck boards are manufactured from either European Redwood or European Whitewood.

NB: ThermoWood® is a registered trade mark of Lämpöpuuyhdistys ry.

Hardwood decking
Hardwood deck boards are only recommended for certain specific applications - where unusually heavy pedestrian traffic is expected.  Care must be taken when specifying hardwood as the properties of different hardwoods can vary significantly.  Hardwood deck boards are only supplied on a bespoke basis, please contact our sales office.

John Brash can advise on the availability and suitability of various wood types for use in specified applications.
