The New Standard BS 5534:2003+A1:2010
This was published in February 2010 and contains within it the requirements for
roofing battens.
Specific tolerances, characteristics and defects are set out. These include dimension
and length, species, grade and identification. The requirements for preservative
treatment are also included
John Brash is the UK's leading supplier of quality graded timber battens to the
construction industry. It has always advocated the need for quality battens and
was the first company to introduce a marking system clearly identifying supplier,
species, size, treatment and grade.
To help the roofing trade comply the NFRC have also published a handy technical
bulletin TB33 illustrating how the roof can comply with the new Standard.
