JB Green & JBI

JB-GREEN - traditional roofing battens

Why JB-GREEN?

JB-GREEN is our traditional batten that has been used for many years and is fully graded to all aspects of BS 5534:2003+A1:2010 with the exception of a final grade for knots and wane, which must be carried out on site. This batten is now machined to improve its consistency in dimension and handling.

JB-GREEN is fully marked with manufacturer, size, species and grade. The TB33 marking is the John Brash code to indicate that a final grade for knots and wane is required.

All JB-GREEN battens are PEFC or FSC accredited.

JB-GREEN is only produced from side boards where the knots are straightforward to assess. It is in principal square-edged.

Part of the JB-GREEN range includes traditionally used sizes that are no longer recognized in BS 5534:2003+A1:2010 (Marking only applies to battens that fall within the BS 5534:2003 +A1:2010 table of sizes - see Table 2).

Packaging:

All timber from John Brash comes in small, easy to handle packs of approximately 1.5m3:

Storage:

JB-Green Roofing Battens can be safely stored outdoors. The battens will weather but this does not affect their life span. The green colour will first darken and then bleach to a grey colour. Battens should always be safely stacked and stocks should be rotated.

JB-GREEN:

  • Meets all the requirements of BS 5534:2003+A1:2010, with the exception of a final grade for knots & wane
  • Marked showing supplier, size, specie, grade (TB33) and treatment
  • Manufactured from high grade European Redwood (PNSY) or European Whitewood (WPCA)
  • Treated to BS 8417:2003, using Osmose Naturewood
  • Carries 60 year lifetime warranty against insect attack and wood rotting fungi (when used above dpc)
  • Packaged in easy to handle bundles of 10

JBI:

JBI is our most popular product and has all the features of JB-GREEN but is a sawn batten rather than machined.

Service:

All products are available from stock or via our network of distributors. Stillage deliveries and self unloading crane vehicles are available.

John Brash maintains large stocks to enable a rapid delivery service. Full technical support is available from the sales office, alongside a full range of literature and point of sale materials.

Environment:

Certification is more important now than ever and is increasingly a contract condition, particularly with larger builders and projects and definitely for all public sector works.
CPET (Central Point of Expertise on Timber) sets out the requirement to use ‘legal and sustainable’ timber. This best way of demonstrating this is to buy accredited timber – FSC or PEFC.

It is important to ask for this at the time of order so that Chain of Custody can be shown throughout the paperwork audit trail.
